Everything you need to know about the International Day of Women in Statistics & Data Science, and what to expect from its fourth outing on 14 October 2025
The International Day of Women in Statistics & Data Science (IDWSDS) Conference will host its fourth annual event on 14 October, 2025. This 24-hour, global conference celebrates the achievements, careers, and history of women in statistics and data science. While the focus is on women and gender minorities, the conference welcomes presenters and participants of all genders.
Since its inception, IDWSDS has grown into a dynamic and inclusive event for statisticians and data scientists from underrepresented backgrounds. These include women and gender minorities, people outside of the US and Europe, and lone researchers who may lack local collaborators. The conference provides a platform to share work, build community, and foster professional growth across borders and specialties.
This year’s conference features speakers from 26 countries
This year’s theme, “Thriving in Your Environment”, recognizes that each person’s career trajectory is shaped by a unique combination of factors including education level, location, industry or sector, company, and other personal situations. No matter those situations, we can thrive professionally. The IDWSDS conference aims to impact the statistics and data science community by highlighting the technical and professional contributions of women and celebrating the diversity in these fields. We aim to inspire attendees to embrace their individual paths while drawing on the advice and experience of others.
This year’s conference features speakers from 26 countries. We will have over 70 talks, including 5 keynotes. Talks this year include those about the challenges of statisticians and data scientists around the world. A few examples are:
- Gender inequality in Brazilian Civil Engineering graduate programs and grant allocation
- Statistics & Data Science in Portugal: Thriving Across Generations
- Advances from junior Bayesian statisticians from Italy, France and the US
- More Than Code: The People, Purpose, and Power of R-Ladies+
- Women in Data Science Driving Industries in the African Context
- Strategies for Thriving Amid Stress, Conflict, and Uncertainty at Work
- Thriving in Multidisciplinary Spaces: Lessons in Leadership, Confidence and Self-Advocacy for Women in Data Science
- Role of Brazilian Women in Statistics
- The Global Role of Women in Pharma Analytics
- Statistician Women in Iran
This year’s presentations reflect the breadth and depth of work being done by women in statistics and data science around the world. Many sessions feature panels of speakers who are coming together from multiple countries or companies. They also highlight the challenges and opportunities faced by professionals in different regions and sectors, offering insights and inspirations for attendees at all career stages. There’s even a talk about knowing when it’s time to retire!
New this year, the conference will be accessible through a dedicated app for smartphones and computers. This platform will allow attendees to connect with speakers, ask questions, and continue conversations beyond the scheduled sessions. We are grateful for the feedback from prior conferences asking for this type of technology and increased opportunities for community building and for the sponsors who make it possible.
The online format ensures accessibility for participants across time zones and geographies
Although submissions for presentations are now closed, registration is open. The online format ensures accessibility for participants across time zones and geographies. Conferences can be a challenge when there are registration fees, travel and hotel costs, time away from work, and the often overlooked costs associated with family or childcare responsibilities. IDWSDS aims to reduce the costs of the attendees and presenters since travel is not required and there is no registration fee.
We know that thriving doesn’t look the same for everyone. For some, it’s giving your first presentation, finding a mentor, expanding your network, or feeling seen as an expert in the field. The IDWSDS Conference is a place where those moments can begin. Whether you attend for the first time this year or are returning to reconnect, we hope you’ll find inspiration, community and practical insights to support your journey.
By engaging with this worldwide community, we aim to increase opportunities for women to thrive. We invite you to register for the conference! Register at www.idwsds.org to learn more about thriving in your environment.
